From the Boris Vian book, “L’Écume des Jours” (translated as “Froth on the Daydream”) it’s intended to create a house where the character Colin lives. The house, in Paris, facing to Louis Armstrong Avenue, is describe to us through metaphors, in a surrealist universe, where the objects, as a light, are changing according to the feelings of those who live in the space.
Through reading the book, we know that Colin, Nicolas (Colin’s man-servant) and a neighbour are residing in the same building. The concept of the house is driven by the various descriptions of the book. As a result, the building is facing to the inside, taking refuge from the city outside, with independent parts that are connected to each other. The first floor, has the space of Colin, divided between public and private, the kitchen, space shared by Colin and Nicolas, and the private area of Nicolas. On this floor the different spaces interlink with each other through corridors which lets the light inside. The ground floor has a central courtyard, and on each side, two independent houses, in which Colin’s neighbours would reside.
“The corridor leading to the kitchen was light because it had windows on both sides of it, and a sun shining behind each of them because Colin was fond of bright things.”
